FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO HEALTH INSURANCE:
Who is the carrier through CPR? Being partially self-funded, there are several parts you may be referring to. I’ll list all 3: 1) PHCS PPO is the provider network. You can go to www.PHCS.com to search for your doctors or hospitals to make sure they are in-network. 2) True Benefits Administrators is the claims paying TPA. This is where each of your claims from the doctors and hospitals are sent for processing and payments. 3) Multiple carriers are secured for different “stop-loss” levels. This is also commonly referred to as “reinsurance”.
Are WE self funding insurance? CPR is carrying the risk for the ASO. From your perspective, it is fully insured with no loss / no gain when it comes to insurance premiums or the claims.
My insurance agent/broker says to verify CPR’s ASO is legal. Is it? An ASO, while often misunderstood, is in fact a legal entity and the insurance plans are employer sponsored insurance plans covered by Title I of ERISA.
My insurance agent/broker says to verify if CPR’s ASO is a MEWA. What does that mean? A MEWA is a term meaning “Multiple Employer Welfare Account”. CPR-ASO is not a MEWA as it is exempt pursuant to DOL codes and regulations.
